What Ads Actually Cost You
Worth doing the arithmetic before deciding whether this is worth Rs. 625 a month.
YouTube serves roughly four to six minutes of advertising per hour of viewing, more on longer videos with mid-rolls. At an hour a day, that’s around thirty hours a year watching ads — most of it for things you’d never buy.
Ads also cost data. Video ads stream at full quality whether you’re on fibre or mobile data, and they load before the content does. On a capped connection you’re paying, in rupees, to be advertised to.
And they cost battery. Every ad is a video decode your phone performs on top of the one you wanted.
None of that makes Premium essential. It does mean the honest comparison isn’t “Rs. 625 versus free” — it’s Rs. 625 versus thirty hours, some data, and the interruption arriving at exactly the wrong moment.
Where Your Money Goes
A point most people don’t know: YouTube shares Premium revenue with creators. When you watch a channel as a Premium member, the creator is paid from your subscription based on how much of their content you watch.
So going ad-free doesn’t mean cutting off the channels you follow. A Premium viewer typically generates revenue for creators without ever sitting through an ad. If you watch small Nepali creators and feel uneasy about skipping their ads, Premium is the way to support them without the interruption.
YouTube Music, Properly
Most people buy Premium for YouTube and never open YouTube Music. It’s half of what you’re paying for.
The catalogue is genuinely the largest, because it includes everything uploaded to YouTube — official releases plus live sets, remixes, covers, regional music that never reached the big streaming services, and Nepali music that often isn’t on Spotify at all.
Switch between song and video with one tap.
Offline downloads work the same as video. Download a playlist on Wi-Fi, listen on the bus.
Smart Downloads keep a rotating set of music on your phone automatically, refreshed overnight.
Your YouTube history feeds it. If you’ve watched music on YouTube for years, YouTube Music already knows your taste better than a new Spotify account would.
YouTube Music vs Spotify
YouTube Music has the bigger catalogue and is the only place for music videos, live performances, and the remixes and covers that exist nowhere else. Spotify is still ahead on personalised recommendations, podcast curation, and playlist discovery.

YouTube for Learning
For a lot of Nepali students, YouTube is where the actual learning happens — lectures, exam preparation, coding tutorials, language lessons, and entire university courses published free.
Premium changes that experience more than it changes entertainment:
No ads mid-explanation. An ad arriving halfway through a derivation breaks concentration in a way it doesn’t during a music video.
Download lectures for offline study. Queue a week of lessons on Wi-Fi and study anywhere, including during load-shedding and in places with no signal.
Background audio for lectures you’ve already watched. Revision by listening while you commute.
Picture-in-picture while taking notes. Keep the tutorial in the corner and your notes full-screen.
If most of your YouTube use is study, the downloads alone justify the cost.

What Activation Involves — Please Read This First
We’re going to be direct, because you should decide with the full picture rather than find out afterwards.
Premium is activated directly on your own Google account. To do that we sign into your account and set it up. We need your Gmail address, your password, and two backup codes.
What that actually means
Your Google password is not just YouTube. The same login covers Gmail, Drive, Photos, Contacts, and Google Pay — and your email is the password-reset route for your bank, your social accounts, and nearly everything else you use.
Backup codes are a second-factor bypass. Each is single-use, and they work even when your phone doesn’t. Handing over two means we can complete a sign-in without you being present for a live verification code. That’s more convenient for both of us, and it’s more access than a single code read out over WhatsApp.
We’re saying this plainly because it’s the most access-heavy thing we sell, and you should weigh it properly rather than discover it at checkout.
Securing your account afterwards — do all five
This is the part that matters, and we’d rather you actually do it than nod at it.
1. Change your password. We’ll message you the moment activation is done. Change it straight away. It won’t affect your Premium.
2. Regenerate your backup codes. Google Account → Security → 2-Step Verification → Backup codes → Get new codes. This invalidates the ones you gave us, including any unused. It’s the step people skip and the most important one.
3. Check your recovery options. Security → Recovery email and Recovery phone. Remove anything you didn’t add. A recovery address added by someone else survives a password change, which is exactly why you check.
4. Review your devices. Security → Your devices. Sign out anything you don’t recognise.
5. Check your payments and subscriptions. Visit pay.google.com → Payment methods, and play.google.com → Subscriptions. Note what’s listed and whether anything is set to renew. If a payment method appears that you didn’t add, message us before removing it so we can tell you whether it’s tied to your active subscription.
Five minutes, and the access we had ends completely. We don’t keep your credentials after activation and we never ask for them again at renewal.
About your Play country
Setting up Premium may involve changing your account’s Google Play country.
If it changes, it stays changed for twelve months. Google permits one country change per year. Until then your Play Store shows that country’s apps and prices.
Google Play balance doesn’t transfer between countries. If you’re holding credit, spend it before you buy from us or you’ll lose it. If you pay for anything else through Google Play, check it before proceeding.
Ask us before buying and we’ll tell you whether your account will be affected.
If you’d rather not
Completely reasonable, and we’d rather you decide now than after paying.
YouTube Premium bought directly from Google needs no account access at all. It costs more and needs an international card, and that trade-off is the reason this service exists. If the price difference isn’t worth handing over account access, buy direct.
Some Nepali resellers also offer Premium without requiring your password. If password access is your sticking point rather than price, that’s worth knowing before you buy from anyone.

Warranty — The Whole Year
If your Premium access stops working at any point during the twelve months, we fix or replace it free.
To claim: WhatsApp us with your order number and what’s happening. Most cases resolve within 24 hours.
Most resellers in Nepal offer no warranty at all. Several who do cover only part of the term, which leaves you exposed for exactly the stretch when a subscription is most likely to lapse.
Setting It Up Properly
A few settings that most people never find.
Download quality. YouTube → Settings → Downloads → Download quality. Medium is fine on a phone screen and roughly halves the storage. Turn on Download over Wi-Fi only too.
Smart Downloads. Settings → Downloads → Smart downloads. YouTube picks videos you’ll likely want and downloads them overnight on Wi-Fi. Keep the number modest — twenty videos fills a phone quickly.
Background play. On by default, but check Settings → Background & downloads if audio stops when you lock the screen.
Video quality defaults. Settings → Video quality preferences. Separate settings for mobile data and Wi-Fi — data saver on mobile, higher quality on Wi-Fi.
Sign in on your TV. Smart TV, Fire Stick, Chromecast, or console — sign in with the same account and Premium follows. Ad-free on the television is where most people notice it most.
YouTube Music needs its own app. Install it separately; Premium covers it but it isn’t inside the main YouTube app.
Turn off autoplay if you want your evening back. Premium removes the ads, not the algorithm.
What Downloads Save You in Data
Downloading on Wi-Fi and watching offline is the most underused part of Premium, and on Nepali mobile data it’s the part that pays for itself.

An hour of YouTube a day at 720p on mobile data is around 27 GB a month. Downloading the same content on Wi-Fi costs nothing from your mobile allowance.
For commuters: download two or three videos the night before, and a bus journey costs no data at all.
Children and Family Viewing
YouTube Kids works with Premium. Sign in with your Premium account and YouTube Kids is ad-free too, which matters more than it sounds — ads aimed at children are the ones parents most want gone.
Supervised accounts let you give a child a restricted version of YouTube under your own account settings.
This is one account, not a family plan. Premium on your account doesn’t extend to other household members’ separate accounts. If several people want Premium on their own logins, each needs their own subscription.

Honest Limitations
Annual only. There’s no monthly option at the moment, so you’re committing to a year.
Manual renewal. You contact us to continue after twelve months.
Geo-blocked videos stay geo-blocked. That’s YouTube licensing, not something Premium changes.
Mobile 4K isn’t guaranteed. Premium unlocks 1080p+, but 4K depends on your device and whether the video exists in 4K.
No refunds after activation — the warranty covers service problems for the full year.
One account only. Other household members need their own subscriptions.
YouTube Music won’t fully replace Spotify if discovery and podcasts are what you value.
Activation needs account access. Covered in full above. It’s the main thing to weigh.
If Something Goes Wrong
Ads are still showing. Sign out of YouTube and back in. If they persist, check you’re signed into the account we activated — people often have two.
Background play isn’t working. Check Settings → Background & downloads. On iOS, also confirm the YouTube app has background refresh permission.
Downloads disappeared. Downloads expire if the app hasn’t connected to the internet in about thirty days. Open the app on Wi-Fi occasionally and they refresh.
YouTube Music says no Premium. Separate app, same account — make sure you’re signed into the right one there too.
Premium isn’t showing on the TV. Sign out on the TV and back in. TV apps cache subscription status stubbornly.
A renewal charge appeared. Message us immediately with a screenshot, before contacting Google.

Is there a monthly option? Not at the moment. The annual plan is the only one currently available.
Do you need my Gmail password? Yes, plus two backup codes. We use them once to activate Premium on your account, then tell you to change the password and regenerate the codes. See the activation section for exactly what to do afterwards.
Why backup codes and not a live verification code? Backup codes let us complete the sign-in without you being available at the exact moment. More convenient, and more access — which is why the security steps afterwards matter.
Is that safe? It’s a genuine trade-off and we won’t pretend otherwise. We don’t store your credentials, we tell you the moment we’re finished, and regenerating your backup codes invalidates everything you gave us. If you’re not comfortable, buying direct from Google needs no account access at all.
Will this appear in my Google account? Check play.google.com → Subscriptions after activation — step five of the security checklist. Message us if anything there looks unexpected.
Will my Play Store change? It may. Ask us before buying and we’ll tell you whether your account is affected.
Is this genuine YouTube Premium? Yes, activated on your own Google account.
